  • 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Breakfast | Strategies to Build Economic Security and reduce poverty
    It is time for a new vision for improving standards of living, promoting economic mobility and addressing the root causes of poverty. Together government, the people, and businesses can do a better job to tap the talents of everyone, strengthening our communities and increasing our productivity and economic security.

    Speaker: BJ Reed- Dr. Reed has been on the faculty of the University of Nebraska at Omaha since 1982 and has served as Dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service since the fall of 2000. Since 2006 he has also served as Executive Associate to the Chancellor. In 2011, he was appointed Senior Vice Chancellor.

    Workshop 1: Financial services and products offered by banks and financial institutions Financial services are the economic services provided by the financial industry, which encompasses a broad range of organizations that manage money, including credit unions, banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, consumer finance companies, stock brokerages companies, investment funds companies, and others organizations Representatives of different banks and financial institutions will present a panel discussion about the different services that they offer to the community.

    Workshop 2: Business Opportunities in Mexico Information about key market opportunities, strategies, technical requirements for products, and other advice about doing business in Mexico will be presented at the conference. National guest Speaker: Juan Carlos Rodriguez is the Secretary of ProMexico in Chicago.

  • 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Luncheon | Individual Development Accounts: The Path to a Dream
    IDAs represent a powerful tool used by community organizations throughout the United States to stimulate participants' savings rates, build their assets, and connect these individuals to the economic mainstream.

    National guess speaker: Isabel Rubio- Executive Director of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (HICA). Isabel is a leader in the current immigration movement, speaking at events across the country. HICA has an asset building program. Its Individual Development Accounts program has been designed for victims of domestic violence.

 

Building Economic Security for Latinos in the Midwest is the title of our annual conference and business exposition in 2012. It will take place at the Industrial Training Center Conference rooms at the South Omaha Metropolitan Community College, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This conference will give the opportunity to businesses and individuals to be connected with the Latino community in South Omaha.
